There are some looks we wish hadn’t happened in ’90s (light-up high tops and floral bike shorts, we’re looking at you), but it turns out that the fashion icons of our youth who inspired those jazzy trends were actually way ahead of their time. Upon closer examination (thanks, BuzzFeed for this great piece of nostalgia) it appears as though beloved sitcom stars like DJ Tanner and Kelly Kapowski had some form of fashion clairvoyance. Right now, we’re really in to the latter; velvet jackets just seem to go hand in hand with holiday time.

It’s an easy way to glam up any outfit, whether paired with skinny jeans and booties for a casual Christmas get together, or with a sequin cocktail dress and pumps for New Year’s Eve festivities.
